“Whatever your hand finds to do, do it with your might.” (Ecclesiastes 9:10)
“Whatever your hand finds to do,” refers to good works that are possible. There are many things your heart might find to do which you cannot do. It is good that such intent exists in your heart; but if you would be truly useful to the Lord, you must not be content with forming good intentions in your heart, and speaking of them as if you would do them if you could; you must be more practical and carry out "whatever your hand finds to do." One good deed is worth far more than a thousand brilliant wishes that are never carried out.
Therefore, you should not wait for large opportunities, or for a different kind of work that is perhaps more appealing. You should simply do the things you “find to do” each day. There is no other time than today available to you in which to work. The past is gone; the future has not arrived; you will never have any time but time present.
Don’t wait until your experience has ripened into maturity before you attempt to serve God. Strive to bring forth fruit for the Lord now. Today.
Serve God now, but be careful how you perform what your hand finds to do. “Do it with your might.” Do it promptly! Don’t fritter your life away thinking about what you intend to do tomorrow as if that could make up for the idleness of today. No one ever served God by doing things tomorrow. If we honor Christ and are blessed in His service, it is in the things that we do today. So, whatever you do for Jesus, throw your whole soul into it. Don’t give Him a little half-hearted labor, done as a matter of course, and only now and then. Serve Him now, and do it with heart, and soul, and mind and strength.
But remember this: Your might is not in yourself, because apart from Christ your life is filled with weakness. Your might lies in the Lord. Seek His help, then proceed with prayer and faith. And when you have done “whatever your hand finds to do,” then wait on the Lord for His blessing. Whatever you do will then be done well , and will not fail to accomplish God’s purposes.
And God is able to make all grace abound to you so that in all things, at all times, having all that you need, you will abound in every good work.
